Police Half Cheering Report

Little Miss Cheerleader, Bessie the Cow and I cheered in a couple of Penguins and some other back-of-the-packers this morning at the Police Half race. We took jingle bells and my big pink feather boa. I wore my pink Penguin Brigade hat and Little Miss wore my pink tiara from Florida.
Bessie Cheers
We didn’t get there early enough to cheer on any skinny-fast folks, and just barely got there in time to set Bessie up on her blanket before Yolanda came cruising up the big hill. We cheered her on as she conquered the last bit. This is a shot of her just as she reached flat land again.
Yolanda Conquers the Hill
Little Miss and I left Bessie near the top and wandered down to the corner halfway down the big hill. We cheered on several racers as they struggled up, and received lots of tired smiles. When they heard we were there to cheer on someone behind them, they were very encouraged that they were ahead of someone else. We cheered on Kirsten from the Garage Gang. I heard later that she managed a 20 minute personal best today. Woohoo!

We were SO excited when we saw a little splash of pink at the bottom of the hill. I jumped up and down and hollered a huge YAHOO! for Dawn. I grabbed our stuff and began running down the hill to run back up with her, and then I remembered the camera. Oh yeah, must get an action shot.
Dawn chases her shadow up the hill.
We cheered her all the way up the hill, from our van on the road, and again at the finish line.

Yolanda did well, and we visited while waiting for Dawn. We chatted with Sylvie, who had raced a 2 minute personal best.
Happy Finishers!

Linda L. hadn’t raced, but had cheered her hubby in and ran back along the course to run the last bit back in with Dawn. Just before Dawn came in, the awards ceremony let out and tons of runners headed to their cars. A bunch of Gord’s runners heard that Dawn was coming in and waited to cheer her in, too.
Go Dawn Go! Sprint to the finish - not much left!

We let Dawn recover and grab some food and then Bessie gave her a big hug back at the van. Bessie was pretty tired from all that cheering at the hill.

  7. […] First off I would like to thank everyone for their wonderful support. I really don’t think I would have finished without the thoughts of my online friends pushing me on or my friends in attendance cheering me on. A special thanks to Karen and her daughter for being there at the top of the toughest hill. It would have been a hard one to climb without you. Be sure and check out Karen’s Cheering Report. […]

  8. […] What I found outside shocked me. The race crew was packing up the clock. They were rolling up the chip mats. They’d taken down the whole finish line! Wait a minute; Dawn’s not done yet! I approached one of the race crew and asked if they knew if all the runners had finished. She said “I think so. I don’t think there’s anyone else.” I found the first-aid crew and asked if they knew of anyone still out on the course. They said they still had two cyclists still out there, so maybe there was someone. This was very frustrating. Had I missed Dawn’s finish? No… Was she okay? Why was everyone so clueless? Last year the sweep team had been radioing in Dawn’s position steadily. […]
