Da
wn and I had a lovely day out on the Waldorf Cross Country 4k course, on a ridge overlooking much of north west Calgary. It was warm out as we hauled ourselves over several enormously steep hills and through high grassy meadows. The Roadrunner flags also led us through winding mazes of shady wooded paths and refreshingly cool creek crossings.![]()
Nancy kept me company most of the way and we had a nice visit as we hiked along. I’m not quite sure what happened to Dawn. We passed her on a hill at one point and I was sure she was going to catch up. Gord always says “Hills are our friends.” Dawn begs to differ.
I did not run a step, though I was quite tempted to. Instead I worked on maintaining a steady effort and enjoyed the views. My knee felt really really good, though in the last 10 minutes a muscle or two gently hinted they were glad I hadn’t been running.![]()
We made our way to the Waldorf school for soup, dessert, and more visiting. It was great to connect with old buddies from previous seasons, and I think we made a new friend too.
Today some of my hill-climbing muscles are making themselves known, but that’s pretty much standard after the first race of the season. I’m hoping to run the next race in the series 3 weeks from now.

Nice pics! That one looks like a major hill! Hope you are healing. Run Good, when you’re able!

Good job! Way to take it easy on that knee. The scenery looks beautiful, as always.

Serious hills there, Karen. I don’t think anybody should be running up those. They are not ANYBODY’s friends!

I usually walk most of the steeper ones whether I’m “running” the race or not. This is a race where I always finish totally out of breath!

Walking that course is probably MUCH harder than running lots of flat courses I’ve been on!
Love those grassy hills.
I bet you’ll be running like the WIND by the next race in the series!
